Edgeworth was originally known as Cocked Hat Creek until 1885 where it was referred to as Young Wallsend then in December 1960 it adopted its present name. Edgeworth has a Coles supermarket, Aldi supermarket, specialty shops, doctors surgeries, a bowling club, three schools, an aged care facility, McDonald's restaurant, a pub, and its own junior and senior soccer clubs (Edgeworth Eagles), and the Sugar Valley Netball Club, being open to all ages. Edgeworth also has its own unique miniature ride-on trains run by the Lake Macquarie Live Steam Locomotive Society which provides model train rides to the public on the last Sunday of every month (except for December). Edgeworth's annual capitol growth is approx 5.57%.
